JVC KD-HDR50
$180.00
Released January, 2009
The Pros:HD/satellite radio ready. Front USB/Aux connections - allows users to play audio off of their iPods, standard MP3 player or other USB/headphone jack devices. Variable-color illumination display - match the colour of your unit to the dash lights of your car.
The Cons:No loudness enhancement. Poorly implemented radio presets. Remote is a little small.
The JVC KD-HDR50 is an in-dash car-audio receiver that features a built-in MOSFET amplifier with a 200w max power output. The second of six JVC KD A/V head units, the JVC KD-HDR50 is an upgrade from the JVC KD-HDR20 in that it adds a Full-Speed USB 2.0 connection with 2-way control for iPod/iPhone(s), a variable-color illumination display, and an iTunes Tagging capability that lets the user save song information for downloading.

In all other ways, however, the KD-HDR50 is practically an equivalent of its downgraded peer. For instance, the KD-HDR50 has a built-in HD Radio tuner, and comes equipped with a CD player that supports traditional CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs, not to mention those outfitted with MP3 & WMA music files. The KD-HDR50 also boasts a handy front-panel auxiliary input that lets one connect the receiver to a plug-and-play satellite radio, a portable MP3 player, a Bluetooth adapter, or a CD changer. Plus, the KD-HDR50 sports a 7-band iEQ, a wireless remote, a detachable face, a subwoofer control, a 24-bit digital-to-analog converter, and 4-channel preamp outputs. The JVC KD-HDR50 retails for $179.95 (versus $139.95) and comes with a 1 year limited warranty. Additional service plans are available for a fee.
